Comprehensive music education and exceptional performance opportunities for students of all ages in the heart of downtown Wilmington
BAMA is offering special Christmas packages for all students enrolled by January!
Committed to exploring both familiar and lesser known works of classical music with a wide range of audiences, the Brierwood Ensemble performs in a variety of venues throughout the city, from Fermental’s spacious outdoor beer garden in North Wilmington to the Spanish Baroque-style Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary in the historic downtown district.
Founded in 2018, Brooklyn Arts Music Academy (BAMA) brings exciting, engaging, and creative music education to downtown Wilmington. Christina Brier and Linda Estep founded BAMA to encourage students of all ages and backgrounds to engage in Wilmington's musical community and to further their understanding of the world through music. Christina and Linda want all people to be able to walk through the doors of BAMA, be in a safe place where they are accepted and can experience the joy and love that music brings. Music is a wonderful way for humans to express themselves and it develops cognitive, social and emotional skills that last through out ones life. Students studying at BAMA benefit from instruction by outstanding artist-educators, a supportive environment, and a classically-based music education. Course offerings include general music, private music lessons, instrumental group classes, glee clubs, and chamber music opportunities.
The teaching faculty of BAMA form the Brierwood Ensemble. Brierwood is a group of Wilmington musicians who enjoy sharing their love of music through stories, history, and engaging programming for all. The ensemble was co-founded in 2016 by four northern transplants – violinist Linda Estep, violist/violinist Clark Spencer, bassoonist Helena Kopchick Spencer, and harpist Christina Brier – who quickly fell in love with their adopted home and its warm, welcoming environment for creative artists. Based in downtown Wilmington, Brierwood performs in venues around Wilmington and across the state of North Carolina. Brierwood recently premiered two new chamber-jazz compositions by Ryan Mulder at UNCW.
